Mercy Ships Alumni Newsletter - March 2010
Welcome to the March 2010 edition of the Mercy Ships Alumni newsletter!
The Africa Mercy arrived in the port of Lomé in Togo after a 10-day sail from Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain. The Africa Mercy will be serving the forgotten poor of Togo until late August 2010. The ship was greeted with a warm welcome from the Assemblie of God brass band and the Advance Team for Mercy Ships, as well as local staff and media. African celebrations of music and dancing on the dockside gave a festive air to the arrival of the vast hospital ship. The crew joined in the celebration from the decks above, dressed in their best attire and bursting with excitement. Read the rest of the article HERE.
During the Togo Field Service, Mercy Ships will be testing a new format for screening patients. Several pre-screenings will be conducted from February until April - in multiple locations rather than one mass screening. This will allow our teams to

It is our hope that prospective patients will have less time to be examined while also reducing security concerns that come with large groups. Read the rest of this article HERE

The journey of the Dronning Ingrid. During the sail from Tenerife to Lomé, crew member Stephanie May wondered what it would be like to be the ship... Imagine you are the Dronning Ingrid: a rail ferry that chugs across the Baltic Sea connecting Danish islands. You are content, your flat bottom sails smoothly across the sea, transporting your cargo. Then they build a road....a road that connects your two islands, and you're just not so popular anymore... and suddenly there is hope for you. Read the rest of the article HERE.
If An Anchor Could Speak. People may assume that the large anchor marking the entrance to the Mercy Ships Operations Center came from a former Mercy Ship. But the surprising origin of the anchor, now part of Mercy Ships lore, is made up of fact and mystery. Read this fascinating story HERE.
Reflections of our Alumni. We ask a few of our Alumni if serving with Mercy Ships impacted their lives and/or their career choices upon their return. Read some of their stories HERE.
