In order to better prepare our staff and crew for service with Mercy Ships we offer an Introduction to Mercy Ships (IMS), Personal Support Raising Seminar and Gateway program three times per year at Mercy Ships International Operations Center in Texas. We also offer an Introduction to Mercy Ships program in Holland twice a year.
IMS is offered at our International Operations Center in Texas and in the Netherlands and is designed to introduce those who consider volunteering with us, either long or short term. Introduction to Mercy Ships is followed by an optional 2 day Personal Support Raising Seminar which is designed to coach participants in the area of personal support raising. The purpose of this seminar is to help our volunteers to create a support team that will follow them in their journey and provide the financial support that they will need to successfully serve with Mercy Ships.
Gateway is Mercy Ships entry program and is designed to educate, equip and empower our staff and crew for service with Mercy Ships. It is 6 ½ weeks in duration which is comprised of 4 weeks classroom instruction and 2 ½ weeks field application alongside the ship. Curriculum includes topics on Faith Foundations, Working with the Poor, Personal/Interpersonal Development, and Basic Safety Training (a maritime requirement).
All volunteers are encouraged to attend both IMS and Gateway but is only required for those volunteering with us 9 months or more.
