Mercy Ships Current Field Service:
Sierra Leone
Through the years, Mercy Ships has referenced the United Nations Human Development Index to find areas of greatest need. Upon studying the HDI, it can be noted that many of the poorest nations fall within a grid formed by 15 ° north and south of the equator and 15 ° east and west of the Prime Meridian.
In addition to providing thousands of free surgeries, Mercy Ships also builds local infrastructure by providing medical training programs and health care development projects. Nations served by Mercy Ships will reap the benefits of these programs long after the hospital ship has left port.
The 2011 Field Service clearly exemplifies the Core Values of Mercy Ships: love of God, love and service to others, integrity, and excellence.
