Extractive Search Supports World’s Largest Charity Hospital Ship

Extractive SearchSpecialist executive search consultancy, Extractive Search, has announced it will support the international charity Mercy Ships as its charity of choice by donating 10% of its profits to the charity.

Extractive Search specialises in the placement of senior professionals into the extractive industries. While many of their searches are for London based senior positions, they also place specialist executive site professionals into emerging markets such as Africa, Asia, Latin America and the United Arab Emirates.

Mercy Ships provides free medical care and humanitarian aid to some of the world’s poorest people, and operates the world’s largest charity hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, currently docked in Sierra Leone.  The ship, a former Danish rail ferry, is staffed by an international crew of dedicated volunteers from over 40 nations ranging from seamen, engineers, surgeons, doctors and nurses who give up their time to help save the lives of others.

James Young, Head of Practice at Extractive Search said, “I am delighted to announce our commitment to raising funds and awareness for our charity of choice Mercy Ships.

“Extractive Search has many client relationships and business interests in Africa and choosing Mercy Ships as our preferred charity seemed a natural choice.

“Aligning our network to companies who uphold corporate and social responsibility is an extremely important principle of Extractive Search. While our operations and assets cannot add the same physical value to emerging economies as many of our clients, we have chosen to support a charity whose actions are invaluable to developing countries throughout Africa and other regions around the world.

“We are therefore pleased to support the good work of the hundreds of selfless volunteers who provide thousands of free surgeries and medical care each year to some of the poorest countries in Africa, bringing hope and healing to the patients they treat.”

Judy Polkinhorn, Executive Director of Mercy Ships UK, said, “We are absolutely delighted to enter into a corporate partnership with a successful, expanding company such as Extractive Search.  Its generosity and involvement will make a considerable difference to what we can achieve in Africa and is vital to ensuring Mercy Ships can continue to help and provide care to those less fortunate.”

Over the last 30 years, Mercy Ships has worked in more than 70 countries providing services valued at £530million and impacting about 2.9million people.
Mercy Ships, the international charity has treated more than 520,000 patients in village medical and dental clinics, performed more than 56,000 surgeries and completed over 1,000 community development projects focusing on water and sanitation, education, infrastructure development and agriculture.
