Kids in Africa get a Healthy Smile
Mercy Ships, a global charity, is putting an international twist on bringing smiles to kids. Give Kids a Smile Day, observed the first Friday in February by the American Dental Association, is a day when dentists in the United States offer free oral care to children of low-income families. This year, an estimated 39,000 kids in the United States will receive free services.

On December 3, 2010, the world will take a moment to recognize the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The United Nations observance aims to promote a better understanding of disability issues with a focus on the rights of persons with disabilities. Colorado Family Volunteers, Changing Lives in Africa
Did you know that volunteering has benefits far beyond what you can imagine? “The Health Benefits of Volunteering: A Review of Recent Research” is a study done by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The research found a significant connection between volunteering and good health. The report shows that volunteers have greater longevity, higher functional ability, lower rates of depression and less incidence of heart disease. Mercy Ships Announces Sierra Leone Field Service
Mercy Ships has selected Sierra Leone as the site for the 2011 Field Service for the world's largest charity hospital ship, the Africa Mercy. This will be the fourth time that Mercy Ships has delivered free world-class medical care to the impoverished West African nation. The protocols and Memoranda of Understanding were recently signed. The Sierra Leone government was represented by The Honourable Vice President, Sam-Sumana, and Mercy Ships was represented by Mr. Don Stephens, President and Founder. The agreement provides the necessary collaboration with the Sierra Leone government in regard to the port, security, water and sanitation. It also opens the door for the Mercy Ships Advance Team to do the preliminary work necessary for the upcoming Field Service.

Mercy Ships Information Services Receives Grant from USAID ASHA
Email and technology upgrades have been made possible by a generous USAID-ASHA grant to Mercy Ships, a global charity that provides medical services and training, as well as infrastructure development and health care capacity building, to areas of natural disaster or chronic need. USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development) is providing a $500,000 grant through ASHA (American Schools and Hospitals Abroad).
