Mercy Ships Announces Sierra Leone Field Service
Mercy Ships has selected Sierra Leone as the site for the 2011 Field Service for the world's largest charity hospital ship, the Africa Mercy. This will be the fourth time that Mercy Ships has delivered free world-class medical care to the impoverished West African nation. The protocols and Memoranda of Understanding were recently signed. The Sierra Leone government was represented by The Honourable Vice President, Sam-Sumana, and Mercy Ships was represented by Mr. Don Stephens, President and Founder. The agreement provides the necessary collaboration with the Sierra Leone government in regard to the port, security, water and sanitation. It also opens the door for the Mercy Ships Advance Team to do the preliminary work necessary for the upcoming Field Service.
Mercy Ships Founder Speaks in Ottawa and Toronto
Canadian parliamentarians, diplomats, donors and alumni gathered at three receptions in Ottawa and Toronto March 24 and 25 to hear Mercy Ships President and Founder Don Stephens present the work of the international hospital ship charity that provides medical and developmental programs free of charge to the forgotten poor.
Mercy Ships Information Services Receives Grant from USAID ASHA
Email and technology upgrades have been made possible by a generous USAID-ASHA grant to Mercy Ships, a global charity that provides medical services and training, as well as infrastructure development and health care capacity building, to areas of natural disaster or chronic need. USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development) is providing a $500,000 grant through ASHA (American Schools and Hospitals Abroad).

Twenty years ago today, the Rotterdam office of Mercy Ships Holland was established. In 1990, the former flagship of the Mercy Ships, the Anastasis, first came to the Netherlands, on its way to the African continent for the first time. In that year, Captain Menno Gort with his family and nurse Jelly van der Wal disembarked ship to return home to their country and to found Mercy Ships Holland.

Azarias Manywa Ruberwa Brings Greetings from Africa
Azarias Manywa Ruberwa, the Former Vice-President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, addressed Mercy Ships personnel at the global charity's international headquarters in Garden Valley, Texas. Born in 1964, Ruberwa was one of four vice-presidents in the transitional government of the Democratic Republic of Congo between 2003-2006. He has been president of the Rassemblement Congolais pour la Democratie since 2003 and was an unsuccessful candidate for president in 2006. He is a member of the Banyamulenge community of South Kivu, who belong to the Tutsi tribe. Ruberwa was trained as a lawyer and is practicing law in Kinshasa today.
Mercy Ships Assessing Need in Haiti

Partnership with Bethesda Opens Dormitory Hévié Benin, September 17, 2009 - Located about 22 miles west from the port of Cotonou in a village called Hévié is a piece of land that belongs to Bethesda, a local faith-based organization. This strip of land is dedicated to health and social developmental programs.
