Gateway: Testimonies
What Participants say about Gateway Field Service
"The Gateway Field Service was an incredible opportunity to put into action the principles that I learned during the Education Phase of the program. It reinforced the differences in how people view the world, helped me to confront spiritual warfare and challenged me emotionally, spiritually and physically. Being away from home and living and working in community is not easy and this became a hard-hit reality for me during this time. I have been on the Africa Mercy for two months now and can honestly say that my experiences on the field service has contributed significantly towards the way I have responded to varying circumstances and to people, both on and off the ship. I have been strengthened and grounded through this opportunity. To God be the glory, great things He has done!" -JK
"My initial thoughts about the field service were that it wasn’t going to be worth the time or money; I’ve traveled a lot before coming to Gateway. However, my time on the field service was awesome and was instrumental in solidifying much of what had been taught in the classroom phase. It was an incredible opportunity, and allowed time and space to continue processing the teaching in a supportive environment. I would recommend that all Gateway participants do field service!" - MR
"The Field Service provided an opportunity to put into practice what we had learned during the Gateway training. I was able to build relationships with some of the people while I was there to serve. I was able to see first hand warm climate world views which helps prepare me for coming to Africa. Relationships were reinforced among classmates while dealing with personalities. Through it all, the Lord was good and His Spirit strengthened the group." – DP
"This is the heart of missions – the relationships, the flexibility, the confusion, the tension between relief and development, the lifestyle…" - LV

"It was important to see our team build upon the work of previous Gateway teams, to see what has worked and what has not worked. It helps me consider how I can do things during my ten months in Africa in such a way that others can build on." – JM
