Peri-Operative Ophthalmic Team Coordinator

This opportunity is available February 27 - November 26, 2011. Coordinate the daily operations of the peri-operative ophthalmic team. Responsible for preparation of patients for surgery. This is done by promoting efficient patient flow while providing high quality patient care. Assure proper patient preparation for surgery including consent form, eye drops, and emotional support. Two year commitment preferred, but will consider one year. Previous leadership experience is required. Ophthalmic experience beneficial, but not required.

Operations & Materials Coordinator - Field Team

The opportunity is available February 27 - November 26, 2011. This member of the Ophthalmic Team will provide day to day logistical support for the team, including materials and data management. One year commitment preferred. Familiarity with quality management processes; strong analytical skills including data entry; strong skills in written and oral communication (English) as well as basic computer literacy, including excel spreadsheet; and ability to drive standard gear shift vehicle and have a clean driving license are required. College or technical school graduate interest and experience within healthcare management is preferred.

Dental Sterilizer

Available August 14 – November 2011. Looking for Previous Dental experience with autoclaves or in a dental clinic is beneficial, but not required. The dental sterilizer prepares dental instruments for use in the clinic. This is an off-ship position that requires ability to work in hot and dusty environment. Minimum two month commitment; one-year commitment preferred.

Dentists

Available April 3 - November 2011. Looking for Dentists with active/current license in home nation. One year of experience preferred. Provide clinical dental care to clients in the host nation. This is an off-ship position that requires ability to work in hot and dusty environment. Minimum commitment 2 weeks.

Ophthalmic - Med Reviewer

This opportunity is available June 5 – July 2 and then again starting on September 25th until end of October. This member of the ophthalmic field team obtains a health history and performs limited physical assessment of patients selected for ophthalmic surgery under local anesthesia on board a Mercy Ship. This is a field-based team and requires the ability to work in a hot and dusty or wet environment four days/week. One month minimum commitment. To be filled by: Licensed MD (GP or FP), PA, NP, RN/LPN, or paramedic/EMT familiar and comfortable with doing physical assessment and clearing/approving a patient for surgery.

Ophthalmic Specialist - Field

This opportunity is available on March 27th, 2011. An ophthalmic specialist participates as part of the ophthalmic field team responsible for screening surgical candidates, assessing post-operative patients, and treating minor ophthalmic eye problems. This team works in community-based clinics at least four days each week. Licensed Optometrist (Therapeutics Certified) or Ophthalmologist, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician/Nurse can apply for this position. If optometry license is other than U.S., then individual must be certified to treat ophthalmic pathology. Certification must be equivalent to U.S. certification. The minimum time commitment is 1 month.
