Urgent

Mechanic/Fitter

Carry out machinery maintenance and repairs as directed. Completion of Basic Safety Training in accordance with IMO STCW and minimum commitment 4 weeks required. Previous experience in mechanical servicing/fitting of plant or machinery or relevant qualifications and skills in trade, heavy engineering sector preferred. Available NOW.

Chief Electrician

Direct electrical department in daily maintenance and repair tasks. Plan for and oversee installation of new equipment. Preferred minimum commitment is 4 weeks. Available beginning September 2010.

Chief Engineer

Head of the engineering department and is responsible to the master for administration, supervision, and safe and economical operation of the department. Preferred minimum commitment of 3 months. Available beginning beginning February 2011.

Engineering Storeman

The Engineering Storeman is responsible for stock control of consumables, orderliness and tidiness of the locations in the engineering department designated for storage of these supplies along with supervision of non skilled workers. Minimum commitment of 3 months is preferred. Available beginning November 2010.

Deck Rating

Responsible to the Chief Officer through the Bosun and Assistant Bosun for general duties and also responsible to the Officer of the Watch/Day, during periods on bridge/gangway watch or on fire/security patrol. At least Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-II/4 is required as well as having practical and theoretical knowledge with regard to use of hand tools and portable power tools. Position is available beginning August 2010. Minimum commitment of 1 month is preferred.

Carpenter

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform General repairs of vessel’s accommodation including carpentry, flooring and furnishings work, Assist in the mooring of the ship, Carry out night time duties of fire watch and cleaning of the accommodation/galley during night time duties, Assist other departments where and when required in a spirit of co-operation, and Prepare to be trained in Firefighting, Lifeboat manning and Emergency Procedures. Minimum commitment of 1 month is preferred. Position is available beginning August 2010.

Hotel Engineer

The Hotel Engineer will oversee the maintenance of all HVACR, Hospital and Hotel/accommodation equipment and systems on board. A Basic Safety Training Certificate according to STCW and Appropriate training and experience in refrigeration and air conditioning systems is required. Certificate of Competency according to STCW Section A-III/1 is preferred but not essential. Position is available beginning January 2011. Minimum commitment of 1 month is preferred.

Deck Hand

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Maintain the structure of the ship by scaling and painting, Assist in the mooring of the ship, Operate deck machinery including cranes, Carry out night time duties of firewatch and cleaning of the accommodation/galley during night time duties, Assist other departments where and when required in a spirit of co-operation, Prepare to be trained in Firefighting, Lifeboat manning and Emergency Procedures, Obtain the qualification of Efficient Deck Hand, Wear the correct protective clothing for the job at all times.

Pipefitter/Welder

HVACR Engineers

Available in in July 2010 on Africa Mercy and September 2010 through January 2011 in South Africa. Maintains all refrigeration and air conditioning equipment on board. Appropriate training and experience in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-III/1 preferred but not requiredMaintains all refrigeration and air conditioning equipment on board. Appropriate training and experience in refrigeration and air conditioning systems, minimum commitment of 4 weeks and completion of Basic Safety Training in accordance with IMO STCW required.

Fourth Engineer

Senior Watchkeeping officer or Duty Engineer as well as being involved in regular engine room maintenance. At least Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-III/1 and minimum 4 weeks commitment required. Available beginning October, 2010.

Chief Officer

In charge of the Deck Department and responsible to the Master for the daily operations of the vessel. Required: Certificate of Competency according to STCW 95 Section A-II/2; Valid ARPA certificate; Valid GMDSS Operator certificate. Proficiency with computer systems and an aptitude to learn new computer applications. Minimum commitment is 3 months. Available beginning December 2010.

Motorman
