Waves of Mercy : 2026 Fall Digital Newsletter
Stories of hope and healing can be found in the latest issue of Waves of Mercy.

Rejoicing comes in the morning

The book of Psalms in the Bible contains a verse that many have seen firsthand aboard our hospital ships:

“Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning…”

Bring hope and healing

Many of the people we see aboard the Global Mercy and the Africa Mercy know the sorrow that comes with the first part of that verse. They’ve been burdened by ailments that few of us will ever see here in the United States.

Bumps grow into large tumors, bringing fear and shame. Injuries and infections often are left untreated, causing painful scarring and struggle.

The weeping can feel endless. But THERE IS HOPE!

As you read through the latest issue of Waves of Mercy, we know that hope will shine through.

Already Strong, Free At Last | Pierre

Pierre may be young, but he already knows the importance of hard work. He also knows the struggle that he has lived with for 12 years.

Read Pierre's story of healing in the latest issue of Waves of Mercy.

When he was only 6 months old, a severe infection left large open wounds on his arm. Though the infection eventually healed, the scars tightened into contractures that locked his elbow, wrist, and fingers in place. Doctors said there was little more they could do.

It seemed like Pierre’s childhood would be shaped by struggle, leaving him working twice as hard as everyone around him. But hope brought relief.

Unshakable Faith | Francisco

“[God] wants me to be healed.”

Francisco had lived with a slow-growing tumor on his jaw for nearly 15 years. When he arrived at Mercy Ships, it was with the hope that healing would soon follow.

Read Francisco's story of hope in the latest issue of Waves of Mercy.

The road ahead stretched his faith further than anyone expected but Francisco knew God would provide the help he needed.

The Foundation of Freedom

There is an energy unlike any other that forms on the dock once a year. It echoes in the cheers of voices, and in the joining of song. You see it in the wave of flags, both native and foreign.

It’s the image of hope becoming tangible. And it just occurred at the port of Tema in Ghana!

After three years of serving the people of Sierra Leone, the Global Mercy has dropped anchor along Ghana's coast.

After three years serving the people of Sierra Leone, the Global Mercy has dropped anchor along Ghana’s coast, ready
to begin a new chapter of service. Aboard, hundreds of volunteers are ready to bring a wave of compassion.

In the months ahead, people from across this beautiful nation will begin a journey they never thought possible. Many have prayed for miracles, hoping for a chance at healing they could never afford or access.

Soon, they will receive the care they so desperately need.

As we welcome patients aboard, we invite you to join us in praying for this field service: that burdens may be lifted and lives changed. Together, may we bring hope and healing to thousands across Ghana.

“Health is not a luxury, it is the foundation of freedom. It is the currency of our dignity. It is our greatest public good and so I am delighted to welcome Mercy Ships to Ghana.”

— His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama

Legacy of Hope

Mercy Ships has built a legacy of hope and healing.

A legacy built by 128,000 life-changing operations, equipping 56,000 medical professionals, and impacting more than 2.9 million lives. But that legacy doesn’t belong to us alone. It was created by the patients who came aboard our hospital ships, the volunteers who served selflessly, and friends like you who have made this mission possible.

With 2,500 volunteers from more than 70 countries, our ships are transformed into communities of hope for so many.

And it is a legacy you can help shape well into the future. Legacy giving is more than finances or legal plans. It’s an
opportunity to show lasting compassion that continues long after you are gone.

These generous gifts ensure our hospital ships can continue providing safe, free surgeries to people in need. While today, the Global Mercy serves the people of Ghana and volunteers aboard the Africa Mercy work in Madagascar, that same hope can continue to reach new shores in the years ahead.

“I just finished getting my estate affairs in order and feel such peace! I have been truly blessed in my lifetime and am so glad to know that my blessings will help other people in need when I leave this bodily life. The work of Mercy Ships touches my heart. It is a well-rated organization, and I feel confident that Mercy Ships will carry out my final wishes with God’s grace and mercy.”

It is an honor to be a part of these stories of hope. To watch as their lives transform from suffering to rejoicing.

Hope is seen in the grin on Pierre’s face as he rides his bike without struggle. Hope radiates through the newfound confidence Francisco has as he shares his story with others.

And this hope will continue well into 2027 as we serve the people of Ghana and Togo.

As another season of service unfolds, the faithful support of our partners continues to open doors to new beginnings. Together, we are seeing lives restored, communities strengthened, and hope carried further than ever before.

What a privilege it is to witness these miracles!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

— Romans 15:13
